Design is a huge field encompassing so many aspects of our daily lives - graphics, web design, interiors, fashion, phone apps and the list goes on.
Design is the arrangement of beauty, the arrangement of elements to best suit the need at hand. Design, like art, can evoke a variety of emotions and responses in the viewer, or the person who experiences the design.
It's always interesting to ask the question - What am I experiencing as I look at this? And, what is the intent behind it?
Design is an art form that can be appreciated on many levels - intellectual, conceptual, experiential. Like art, design can be understood from many perspectives - that of the designer, the subject, the audience, and the society that it's part of.
Design is also hard-wired into us. The concept of Divine Proportion as understood by Leonardo Da Vinci, among many others, explains that most things in the universe follow a particular pattern of scale and proportion. It is this pattern that we find appealing and attractive. This order that is innate in the universe informs our concepts of beauty and perfection, and they inform our attitudes and notions about design.
